Apollonius Rhodius and the Stoic Doctrine of the Emotions
Abstract
Apollonius’ characters, in contrast to Homer’s, undergo emotions that evoke the Stoic idea that emotions are based on erroneous judgments in a unitary and rational soul, while ἀμηχανίη engages Skeptic suspension of judgment.
