The Impact of Rome on Egyptian Industry and Trade
Abstract
Roman privatization should be doubted: evidence on three industries—vegetables oils, textiles, beer—shows that Rome, while abandoning some forms of state intervention, did not fundamentally alter the structure of the economy but built on earlier Ptolemaic practices.
